I can’t believe that when I was thinking about possibilities for the best EP ever I forgot this

Maybe the best release ever from what may be my favourite band of all time. All five songs on it are amazing, including slow the best song about a blow job ever. Even the cover kiks arse. I actually bought the CD second hand about 6 years ago now for 45 quid. Per song that’s probably the most expensive perchase I’ve ever made – and it was totally worth it.
Very stupid.

I re-listened to Mission of Burma’s first EP Signals, Calls and Marches today, and was again blown away by it. It’s not just that every song is great, but also the variety they shown in just six songs.

(And for bonus points the sleeve notes compile all the words in the lyrics used and then put them into alphabetical order.)
Afterwards it made my consider what other great EPs there are, and if there are any better than it. I guess Mogwai’s My Father, My King is a contender (though you could debate whether it’s an EP or just a single song).

In August the chemistry department at Curtin university moved into a new building

Considering it cost ~$110m it is absolute bloody rubbish. Here’s why
- It’s not water proof, any time we get a big downpour puddles crop up all over the building.
- Unlike UWA’s new chemistry building, which actually looks interesting, out new building is both pretty ugly and really dull.
- Considering this building was supposed to be specifically designed and built for a chemistry department the facilities are gash. For instance, here in the computational laboratories rather than having putting the ethernet points and power sockets into the floor, ceiling or columns they’ve been placed against the walls. Or rather ONE wall, meaning that nothing else can be placed against that wall.
- Linked to the former point is that they decided the best place for the computer labs was on the first floor – the floor that has less working ethernet ports than every other floor. Yes that’s right the COMPUTATIONAL chemistry labs have less working ethernet ports than any other lab.
- The next complaint could actually made about many new buildings. The fucking inability of modern architects/builders to put in windows that will open and allow some fresh air into the building. No doubt they’ll go on wanking about why the superb AC in the building makes opening windows unnecessary, but they are wrong. AC NEVER works as well as just opening a window – this building being a case in point, it took 2 months for us to get any AC in our lab and even now the bloody thing isn’t working properly.
- Not only don’t the windows open but they are the most stupidly places things. What the hell is the point of a window at waist height?

Good Things
Rowland S. Howards new album – Pop Crimes
Bad Things
No phones – still haven’t got a phone despite being in this building for 4 months now
doubleTwist – what kind of shitty program doesn’t even have it’s own volume control. So if you want to change the volume of your music you have to change the volume of everything. Rubbish!
